Here is an excellent treatment of the political correctness uproar du jour from a faithful Christian perspective.

Beyond the Fog

It saddens me deeply that we Christians have fallen so head-over-heels into the deceptions surrounding gay marriage.  We seem to draw our opinions from facebook and Twitter and the on-line and on-air media.  (A dwindling minority actually reads printed news.)  What we don’t seem to do, is draw our opinions from this book.

So let me say as succinctly as I can what my views are on the issue, making specific reference to the firestorm surrounding the remarks by Dan Cathy of Chick-fil-a and the letter to him from the Mayor of Boston inviting him to take Boston off of his company’s expansion plans because he hates gay people.

First, there are only a few things I hate.  I hate sin.  I define it by what this book says. I don’t hate sinners.  I am one.  I hate lies, all of which come right from the mind of Satan, who…

  1. From Steve Sampson (

Here are a few of the laws ignored by Bible-preaching, bigoted, hypocritical, homophobic Christians:

1…Capitalism depends on interest; money charged for money, money earned on money. The world economy would probably collapse without interest. But, there is obviously an evil associated with interest that was understood by the compilers of the Bible. At least twice the Bible forbids interest: Exodus 22:24 and Deuteronomy 23:20 forbid interest. If you have a credit card and pay interest, if you pay interest on a home mortgage or an automobile loan, if you earn interest on a bank account or any other investment you are breaking the law of the God of the Bible. I don’t expect Christians to ever stop paying or earning interest. Homophobic Bible-preachers will always find a reason to ignore this law. They always have found a reason to ignore the Biblical prohibition on interest.

2…Leviticus 19:13 and Deuteronomy 24:15 commands employers to pay their employees at the end of each work day. Unless you are paid each day, your employer, and you by association, are breaking the law of the Biblical God.

3…A very violent law commands parents to kill their children if they curse them or are disrespectful in any way. This law is thankfully ignored, but it is there; in fact it is in the Bible at least four times: Exodus 21:15, Exodus 21:17, Leviticus 20:9, and Deuteronomy 21:18-21.

4…Today in America, there’s much concern about undocumented people within the nation’s boarders. Some people are trying to create laws to stifle, vilify, or suppress these people. The Bible addresses aliens. It commands that aliens be treated with respect, kindness, and not harmed in any way. It gives that command at least four times. But, people ignore it. Find laws commanding kindness and acceptance of aliens in Exodus 22:20, Exodus 23:9, Leviticus 19:33, and Deuteronomy 10:19.

5…Some laws cancel out other laws. A good example is found in the Old Testament in Leviticus 19:27 which forbids men from shaving or cutting their hair. But, in the New Testament, Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians 11:14-16 forbid men from having long hair and command women not to cut their hair. So any woman who cuts her hair is a sinner, and men, well your out of luck unless you’re bald and then I guess you can ignore both of these laws.

6…A law that would mean the killing of a great number of Americans is found in Leviticus 20:10 and in Deuteronomy 22:22. It commands those breaking their marriage vows by engaging in adultery to be killed.

7…Mark’s Gospel 10:2-12 and Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians 6:10-11 forbid divorce. The Bible-belt is the area of the country with the highest divorce rate. Christian Fundamentalists have one of the highest divorce rates in the U.S. By-the-by, liberal New England has the lowest divorce rate in the United States.

8…Poor women. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians, those crazy Corinthians, 11:3, Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians 5:22-24, Paul’s Letter to the Colossians 3:18, and Peter’s First Letter 3:1 all tell women to be submissive to their husbands. These laws command men to rule their wives.

9…Poor women again. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians 14:33-35 and Paul’s First Letter to Timothy 2:9-12 command women not to preach but to be silent in church and to again obey their husbands. They are to be completely submissive and silent in regards to their husbands. In the verses from Timothy women are also commanded not to wear gold or pearls or fancy hair styles.

    10…Leviticus 19:28 forbids tattoos.

11…Leviticus 19:32 commands people to stand up in the presence of the aged. This law does not go sit well in youth loving modern American. When was the last time you saw anyone stand up when an elderly couple entered a restaurant?

12…Numbers 15:32-36 command that people who work on the Sabbath are to be put to death. Because some Christians hold Saturday as the Sabbath and some hold Sunday, no more week-end work, just to be safe.

13…A law bankers and credit card issuers and other business people would absolutely refuse to obey if pressed is found in Deuteronomy 15:1-2 which commands that every seventh year all debts be canceled.

14…Deuteronomy 22:5 commands women not to wear men’s clothing. Sorry ladies don’t wear your boyfriend’s blue jeans or t-shirt or you’ll go to hell.

15…Deuteronomy 22:11 forbids clothing from being made from two different kinds of thread. If you wear a cotton-wool blend you are a sinner.

16…Another extremely violent Biblical law is found in Deuteronomy 22:20-21 which demands the killing of women who have premarital sex.

17…One of the worst laws in the Bible is found in Deuteronomy 22:23-24. It commands that a woman raped in a city is be put to death. The rapist is to be killed also. So both victim and criminal can be killed at the same time. Does this sound like justice?

18…Matthew’s Gospel 5:32 forbids any man from marrying a divorced woman.

19…Matthew’s Gospel 5:39 commands we do not resist when some one tries to injure us. No more war.

20…Matthew’s Gospel 5:42 commands we give to beggars. Don’t walk around street people anymore as if you don’t see them.

21…In Matthew’s Gospel 5:44 Christians are commanded to love their enemies. I’ve been told by quite a large number of Christians, especially the group from Westboro Baptist that they hate me because I’m gay. Love me anyway; even old gay men want to be loved.

22…In our materialist society 6:19 of Matthew’s Gospel seems doomed to be ignored. It commands Christians not to collect possessions.

    23. My last example from the many ignored laws is again from Matthew’s Gospel 7:1. It commands Christians not to judge others. Oh, my.
